Welcome from Susan Gross, Host Committee Chair:

Follow the crowds to Louisiana's fastest growing tourist attraction.....

Shreveport, Louisiana, promises a weekend that will both entertain and educate. Headquarters will be at the AAA 3 diamond Sheraton Hotel. When we're not discoursing on Southern Jewry, Shreveport offers distractions for a variety of entertainment palates from the Gardens of the American Rose Center to casino boats and thoroughbred racetracks. This popular resort town on the Red River, with its Latin, African, and Native American cultures, offers a rich brew of cultural and culinary delights.

The SJHS and TJHS combined conference will cap Shreveport/Bossier Jewish History Month. Our Jewish sightseeing will include:

  • Meadows Museum with an exhibit from the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience
  • The old Agudath Achim Synagogue featuring Art Deco architecture
  • The old B'nai Zion Temple (1914) with its Lafarge stained glass windows
  •  Oakland Jewish Cemetery with Jewish Confederate burials
  • Agudath Achim Cemetery
  • LSU-Shreveport Archives
  • Bossier Parish Historical Society exhibit on Jewish Pioneers of Northwestern Louisiana
