How to access the archives: Valid researchers are welcome to use the resources of Special Collections during regularly scheduled hours, although use of certain rare or fragile material may be restricted. Researchers may request appointments to use the archives other than the hours listed. They may request photocopies from a staff member if the material can be safely handled. Written or telephone requests will be answered as time permits.
The College of Charleston is the archive of the SJHS. The materials in Special Collections are non-circulating. They currently have the Records of the SJHS, including minutes of the meetings, agenda, presidents', secretaries, treasurers' and committee reports; financial records; papers of former presidents and committee chairmen related to the Society, correspondence, membership lists, constitution and bylaws; legal documents, essays submitted for the Student Essay Prize; grant proposals; programs from annual meetings; copies of the SJHS newsletters, and the Journal of the Southern Jewish Historical Society; photographs and clippings relating to the Society.
Related items are also housed here-including family and community histories related to the Jewish experience in the South, and collections and items of exceptional intrinsic or research value relating to Southern Jewry.
