2003 President's Welcome

Friends,

For this year’s conference the Southern Jewish Historical Society has the exciting opportunity of working with the Jewish Historical Society of South Carolina to present outstanding speakers and interesting panel discussions. Charleston is a wonderful city, and you must make plans to join us there in October!

Meanwhile, the Board of Directors is working diligently on getting numerous activities functioning well. The first is our website which our web master, Julie Pease is bringing up-to-date. Please tell us what should be there or what is too extensive for you to enjoy. We look forward to lots of feedback. You may e-mail me at bmcooper@edifax.com to give me your response. I truly encourage you to do that.

Next, our diligent Membership Chair, Betsy Teplis, is working hard to grow our membership. In this effort, she needs your assistance. Do you have friends who are interested in history, in Southern history, in Jewish history (either north or south!). Or in roots? If so, please send Betsy the name and address and she will be happy to invite that person or group of people to join the Southern Jewish Historical Society. We work so hard on our conferences that we really want to make them available to the maximum number of people. You are an important step in making sure that the word gets out.

And finally, we are trying to find (inexpensive) means to publicize our work and our conference. Would you be willing to help us? If you are interested in public relations or marketing, please let me know. We need people all over the country to help us in this endeavor.

So please put October 28 through 31 on your calendar and "MEET ME IN CHARLESTON"!
