2005 President's Welcome

Dear internet browser:

I want to welcome you to our website. This may be the first time that you have found us or perhaps you visit us on line often. If this is your first or one of your first times to join us for either a research project or to check in with us, please take a few minutes and click on any of the subjects you choose to learn more about concerning the Southern Jewish Historical Society.

You can find out about our most recent convention city, Baltimore, and browse through one of the most outstanding lineups of programs and speakers that was ever made available to our delegates. Also listed are the optional tours that were also made available to the conference goers.

We will soon be posting information on next year's host city, Little Rock, Arkansas. Jim Pfeifer, host chairman, is busy arranging hotel accommodations (The Peabody) and utilizing the many attractions of Little Rock, especially the recently opened Bill Clinton Library. Stuart Rockoff, program chairman, already has lined up speakers who will live up to the high standards of previous conferences.

You also can learn of our Grants and Awards programs and discover these projects which have become vital functions of the SJHS. Discover our newsletter, "The Rambler", and read about one of our jewels, our Journal, the "Southern Jewish History". The much anticipated "Rambler" and "Journal" are received regularly by our members. The articles in both of these publications are extremely well written.

You will soon be able to link with many of our affiliated Societies throughout the country. You will be able to network with these groups and learn what is happening in different regions of the country. This will be an excellent tool to help in research you might be conducting about southern Jewish history or could be helpful in writing papers concerning various sections of the United States.

So, welcome to our website. Visit us often and I urge you to let me know if you would like to be a more active member of the Southern Jewish Historical Society.

Best Regards,
Sumner Levine
President
